Setting up a travel eSIM on an iPhone takes a few minutes and no tools. The steps below work on recent iOS versions; the wording in Settings can differ slightly between versions.
Before you start
- Your iPhone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Not sure? Check your model or dial *#06# and look for an EID.
- You are on Wi-Fi. Installing needs an internet connection.
- You have the email with your install link or QR code.
Install the eSIM
- Open the install link on the iPhone itself, or scan the QR code from another screen.
- Tap Add eSIM and follow the prompts.
- Give the new line a clear label, such as Travel, so it's easy to spot later.
- When asked, keep your home line as the default for calls and messages.
If the QR code doesn't work
Go to Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM, choose to enter the details manually and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
Turn it on when you arrive
- Open Settings → Mobile Service.
- Under Mobile Data, choose the travel line.
- Open the travel line and switch on Data Roaming.
- Open your home line and switch its data roaming off.
